We recently started a community based healing group for Indigenous youth in our area, and it has quickly become something really meaningful, not just for the kids, but for the families and community around them. This group is for school aged youth who have experienced different forms of trauma and stress, and who often don’t have access to culturally relevant support. The goal is simple, but powerful: create a space where kids feel safe, connected, and proud of who they are. What makes this group different is that it is grounded in culture. We are not just talking about emotions, we are helping kids heal through connection, storytelling, and traditional practices.

This fundraiser is not for just one event. It is to help build and sustain a community based healing group for Indigenous youth. The group is designed to provide a safe, supportive space where children can connect with culture, community, and healthy ways of coping. The goal of this project is to bring culturally meaningful support to youth who may not otherwise have access to it. Funding will help cover cultural teachers and speakers, food for the children, scholarships for children who don't have insurance coverage, transportation support, group supplies, and other start up needs to help the program grow and continue. This group has the potential to benefit the wider community by creating a space where youth feel seen, supported, and connected. It also helps strengthen cultural identity, builds community relationships, and gives children access to positive role models and healing centered experiences.

We’ve seen firsthand how much these kids need this kind of space. When they feel safe, when they feel seen, when they feel connected, they show up differently. They open up. They laugh.
