Support Harvard's Latinx Graduation Tradition

***Note: We are raising our goal!
Our numbers for expected attendance are continuing to increase, so we are searching for bigger venues as a result & aiming to place an order of stoles for all those interested. All left over funds will be utilized to plan the community-wide Latinx Convocation, Latine Heritage Month programming in the Fall, & for Latinx Graduation expenses for next year! The financial support is greatly appreciated & extremely beneficial for the next year's programming, as we continue to navigate changing guidelines & possibly less university support going forward.

Concilio Latino is the university-wide organization for all undergraduate Latinx affinity groups at Harvard, and its partner organizations ensure that Latinx from all backgrounds feel welcomed by creating spaces to share their experiences, cultures, foods, and traditions, and most importantly, to celebrate and take pride in their identities. For many of us, graduating from Harvard is more than a personal milestone. It is a reflection of our families’ sacrifices, our communities’ resilience, and our shared pride in our background, cultures, and identity.

This year, a record-high percentage of Latinx students are graduating across Harvard’s undergraduate and graduate schools, making our end-of-the-year celebration more meaningful. Harvard’s Latinx Graduation, a tradition that started a decade ago, holds a special place in all of our hearts. This event provided a space for our families to come together to honor the achievements of our vibrant and resilient community and witness each one of us receive our Latinx stole—a symbol of cultural pride, family legacy, and belonging in this institution.

Unfortunately, Harvard’s Latinx Graduation has lost its institutional funding this year. However, the importance of this tradition has only evolved. That’s why Concilio Latino and our partner organizations, including graduate students from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, Harvard Kennedy School, Harvard Law School, Harvard Graduate School of Design, Harvard Business School, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Harvard Divinity School, Harvard Extension School, Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences are stepping up to lead a fully student-run celebration, and we’re asking for your support.

Your contributions will go directly toward creating a culturally affirming celebration for Latinx students across the university. Specifically, we plan to use the funds to secure a venue where students and their families can come together, and to provide the traditional Harvard Latinx stole that marks this hard-earned milestone.

Harvard officially declared that we are unable to use any university spaces for graduation. As a result, we must seek outside locations to host the ceremony. Additionally, we expect to have the largest order of stoles compared to previous years, except it is no longer funded by the university. We also require additional services and operations costs, including photographers, printing fees, AV equipment, and more. All extra proceedings will go towards supporting our Latinx affinity graduations next year and beyond given the uncertainty we are facing with institutional funding.

Please consider donating to our GoFundMe and sharing it with others who believe in celebrating and uplifting Latinx excellence.

Help us ensure this meaningful tradition continues for years to come.
