Late Friday night, April 3, my brother Harry's home sustained a terrible fire. Tragically, the fire took the life of his wife, Lorraine. Harry has lost his partner of 35 years and the home we all grew up in. Harry was also injured while trying to escape his bedroom, which was full of smoke and flame. After spending several nights in the hospital, he is now recovering and receiving physical therapy in a skilled nursing facility. He remains mentally sharp and focused on healing and moving forward, while also being emotionally devastated over his loss.

It has been heart-warming and heart-breaking at the same time, watching Harry navigate his new reality, telling his story to loved ones, and seeing the outpouring of love and support from so many friends and family.

While insurance might help him rebuild his home, his heart is another matter. Lorraine was the love of his life. She was passionate and funny and had a heart of gold. Lorraine grew up in San Francisco, part of a colorful Italian family who called their grandma Nonna and made "gravy" for their pasta the old-fashioned way. Her eyes lit up with pride when she talked about her grandson Cody and loved granddaughter Isabella beyond measure. She was a loyal friend and kept solid relationships lasting many decades. Lorraine was an art dealer by trade and frequently worked side-by-side with Harry on construction projects. Lorraine delighted in meeting new people and acted the perfect host for their Airbnb "Cozy Room." Among her guests in the room were out-of-town firefighters who came to battle the 2017 Tubbs Fire in Santa Rosa.

Lorraine will truly be missed by so many.

The next weeks and months will be critical for Harry to get back on his feet. As his family and friends, we have circled around him to love and support him, performing myriad tasks with numerous agencies and officials. We also realize that he will need bridging funds to get him to the next steps. This is why we are reaching out to you. Many have asked how they can help, specifically, where they can send Harry money. Here it is.

Most immediately, Harry is faced with funeral expenses for Lorraine, basic clothing and necessities for himself, and a new computer so he can sign all the forms being emailed to him and keep track of the thousands of tasks he has to juggle. It is overwhelming, for sure.
