Support Hannah’s Recovery after Brain Surgery

On behalf of my parents, Hannah Scott and Jonathan Scott, us daughters are setting up a GoFundMe account.

Our mother, Hannah Scott, underwent her first craniotomy on January 16, to remove a massive softball-sized meningioma tumor from her brain. The tumor, which no one knew she had, had burst and caused brain swelling and bleeding. Since her surgery, mom has had seizure episodes, blood clots, cognitive deficits, and short-term memory loss. Despite the challenges, she is a strongly fierce woman and has progressed really well over the past weeks, to the point where her neuro team had discharged her from Brigham and Women’s Hospital. However, her good luck was cut short the night before Valentine’s Day when she suffered a setback. She experienced another seizure which caused pneumocephalus and more brain swelling, so she was  immediately airlifted back to BWH for continued monitoring and potentially a second surgery. She’s been having daily CT scans to monitor the air in her brain as well as her blood clots. 

Our father has been by her side every step of the way. Our family has been more than generous with providing us beds to crash on at the wee hours of the night, cleaning our parents' house, watching their dog, and always landing a helping hand. While my parents have insurance and have exhausted the several resources at their disposal such as the VNA, elder services, MV hospital and rehab, BWH, Meals on Wheels, and many more, they still need help. My mom will need costly 24/7 around-the-clock nursing care for the foreseeable future.

With both our hard working Vineyard parents out of work, (and my mom likely never going to be able to work again), their financial situation is tough. Combined with the high cost of these specialty services not guaranteed by insurance and the limited number of beds available at rehabs that offer 24/7 care, we are asking for help in any way you can.

Please, our mother needs the best care she can get.
