Hi everyone! My name is Halle Mathewos, and I am honored to serve as the president of the CU Denver chapter of Global Medical Brigades. This year is the first year I have the incredible opportunity to travel with my team to Athens, Greece, to provide essential medical care to underserved communities.
Global Medical Brigades is a student-led nonprofit that partners with healthcare professionals to provide free medical care, health education, and public health projects to underserved communities worldwide.
During this trip, my team and I will:
- Assist in mobile medical clinics with licensed doctors and nurses
- Provide basic medical care, screenings, and medications to families in need
- Teach health education workshops on hygiene, disease prevention, and nutrition
- Help with public health projects, such as building sanitation stations and water filtration systems
For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a doctor or someone who works in healthcare. After visiting Ethiopia, a third-world country where my parents are from, and seeing the lack of medical resources where people struggle to get even basic care, I’ve become even more passionate about helping underrepresented communities. That’s why this opportunity with Global Medical Brigades is so important to me.
I’ve dedicated myself to this path, balancing my studies, leadership roles, and hands-on medical experience to prepare for a career in medicine. This trip is a chance to gain new learning experiences in healthcare—helping provide medical care, health education, and public health support to a community that needs it.
However, in order to participate, I need to raise $3,860 to cover travel, lodging, medical supplies, and program costs. Your support will help me cover these costs, so I can contribute to this mission. Any amount helps, and even if you can’t donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean a lot. Thanks for your support!
