Support Greta's Mission: Just Blankets

Hello. My Name is Greta Stromberg. I am a long-time resident of Port Townsend and formerly homeless. I spent too many nights on the street without a blanket freezing. It is a memory that will be with me for the rest of my life. Last January (2024) I started a project called "Just Blankets" which consists of a bin outside of The Recovery Cafe (939 Kearney Street) where people can donate blankets, sleeping bags, or tarps 24-Hours a day. And, when they are available, people in need can get a blanket to stay warm at night. Last year my goal is that there be at least two blankets, sleeping bags, or tarps in that bin every night. Throughout this year, sadly, the bin has often been empty. I am seeking financial help from members of the community who are willing to invest in low-cost wool blankets, sleeping bags, tarps or chargers for electric blankets so that those living outdoors or without heat can stay warm and dry throughout the year. Last year I was given access to electric blankets by The Jefferson County Emergency Management Department. These were hugely successful and I was told that they were lifesaving for some. They work best for people who are living in cars or boats or dry places without electricity. In order for them to work as intended they require the purchase of an external charger for each. The cost ranges from $15 for a set of two non-solar chargers to around $25 for each solar charger. I am hoping to raise funds for at least 130 more chargers as that is how many blankets of this kind are currently available. Any donation will be used to help those without housing stay warm and dry.
