As many of you know, I am not one to share my personal beliefs on social media, so this is going to be quite a vulnerable post for me that I hope you all will take the time to read to learn more about the goal of this fundraiser.
With the heaviness of many tragic recent events and the 24th anniversary of the September 11th attacks on my heart, I prayed this morning for the courage to do the right thing and for the opportunity to put something good into the world.
Then, as I do most days, I got dressed and went for a run. Immediately upon starting, I was overcome with a feeling of gratitude for finding this passion of mine so early in life. I began to reflect on all the benefits that running has brought me: mental clarity, physical health, social interaction, and so much more.
I then started to think about my own personal progress with running. As someone who grew up well known for being painfully slow, running was always a daunting task. But over the last several years I have seen improvements that can only come from time and consistency. Although I have been running for over 4 years now, my love for this sport really took off at Ritter Park in Huntington, WV, and I began to reminisce on the hundreds of hours spent running around that park. In an unfamiliar city, Ritter Park quickly became my comfort zone.
It was at this moment that I realized what I was meant to do. Only an hour after praying for the courage to do something good, my prayer was answered. In an effort to give back to the place that brought me comfort throughout the transitions of my life so that more people can experience the joy that I have felt, I will be running the Marshall Half Marathon in November to raise money for the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation Department.
My goal is to raise $1,311.00 In symbolism for the half marathon. I hope that this donation can be used by the Greater Huntington Parks and Recreation Department to further develop its parks and maintain the beauty that is Ritter Park for years to come.
This is scary for me, and a step outside of my comfort zone, but I am committing myself to putting good back into this world and I hope that you will join me. If you are considering donating, you can do so through the secure link or you can share with friends and family. Any support would be appreciated and I hope that we can come together in these trying times to prioritize good. Thank you❤️
