Our grandmother has been living with Alzheimer’s for the past 11 years, starting with early-onset. Over the years, we’ve watched this cruel disease slowly take away pieces of the woman we love so dearly. Anyone who knows her knows how kind and selfless she is. She has always been the one to help others without hesitation, and she is truly the piece that holds our family together. She took on the role of also helping take care of me and my brother , so I would love the opportunity to help her.
Unfortunately, her Alzheimer’s has now progressed to the point where she needs professional care around the clock to keep her safe. After searching tirelessly, we found a facility that offers quality care at the lowest cost we could find—about $3,600 per month. While this is the most affordable option, it is still far beyond what our family can manage on our own.
Her son, Scott, along with other family members, has been caring for her at home, but her needs have become too great, and her safety is now at risk. We are currently waiting for her VA benefits to begin, but in the meantime, we are struggling to cover the cost of care. We do not want to risk taking a bridge loan on the home her late husband built for our family—a house that holds generations of memories—especially knowing we could lose it. Her husband, who passed away 10 years ago, also from Alzheimer’s, poured his love into building that home, and it remains where family still resides.
We are asking for help to cover the cost of her care until her benefits are approved. Any amount, no matter how small, will go directly toward ensuring she has a safe place with the support and dignity she deserves.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting us during this difficult time.
