Grace Community Services (GCS) promotes dignity for people whose chances of a promising future are diminished by isolation and food and housing insecurity. We do this by mobilizing hundreds of volunteers to affect change in people’s lives. GCS operates the Senior Center for Healthy Living, the Breakfast Plus program for the food insecure, and the Inspire program for students.
- $5 pays for one student to attend a biweekly team building meeting.
- $7 Buys a meal for a homeless or food insecure person.
- $20 Pays for a box of hand warmers to be given out during the cold months.
- $30 pays for one student to attend an educational field trip (this varies on the trip).
- $50 funds an exercise class for 60 Seniors.
- $50 pays for one student's weekly tutoring .
- $50 pays for an insulated sleeping bag for a homeless person to use during the winter.
- $75 Pays for a winter coat for a homeless person living on the street.
- $150 helps 27 seniors go on a field trip.
(Please note these donations will go into our General Fund and used at our discretion, but will be used on these items or similar ones.)
We exist to:
- Provide a safe space where people who are unemployed and underemployed, homeless, elderly and isolated find community, opportunities for engagement, advocacy, health and wellness programming and direction.
- Fill gaps by providing nutritious meals for those suffering from food insecurity.
- Promote healthy aging and help people maintain or establish independent living.
- Educate the broader community about hunger, homelessness and the needs of isolated seniors in Jersey City and Hudson County.
- Provide opportunities for everyone to experience self-worth by sharing the privilege of service.
- Provide support for students regardless of socio-economic background.
- Spark student curiosity, develop critical thinking and leadership skills.
- Given students a wider understanding of what is possible for them in the future.
