Hi everyone! For my birthday this year and in the giving spirit of November, I wanted to give back to something that is very dear to my heart - Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry. My family and I have been volunteering for a few years now but the Grace Church food pantry has a long standing ministry in Alexandria. We serve 150-200 families a week, at the peak of COVID we served over 300 families a week. The food pantry providing some basic items such as cornmeal, oil, pasta, other non-perishables, diapers, wipes, soap and hygiene products. We have very generous donations but most important are high value items like oil, cornmeal, diapers and wipes that we don't always have enough of.
Now more than ever, it is important to help our communities. There are countless families in our community that have been struggling this year, either losing their Federal government jobs, being furloughed during this shutdown, the affordability of groceries and food and now with the loss of SNAP benefits. Jane Goodall, a hero of mine famously said "There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about.” This is what I care about in my community and I would love to give back to it. We can do things that matter and that make a difference and I encourage everyone to find what matters to them in their community and to give back to it.
As a gift to me, to my family and to my community, please consider donating to help buy supplies for this wonderful cause.
