Global Medical Brigades is one of the nine branches of the international student-led nonprofit organization Global Brigades. Global Medical Brigades empowers its volunteers to work alongside local doctors, dentists, and pharmacists to provide care in other countries. Each of our partner communities receives a brigade every 3 to 4 months where hundreds of patients are treated, and volunteers deliver supplies and education on public health. Between brigades, the Global Medical Brigades in-country team maintains relationships with the communities to provide follow-up and to conduct Community Health Worker (CHW) training to empower local leaders to sustain a consistent level of healthcare.
Our chapter, Global Medical Brigades FGCU, provides health screenings locally in various communities, including Immokalee, North Fort Myers, East Naples, and Golden Gate. We offer free vital sign screenings and distribute information on free or reduced healthcare services, along with hygiene packs for continued care. We are also active with various organizations, including OneBlood and Premier Mobile Health Services.
For this year's brigade, our chapter will travel to Panama from May 5, 2025, to May 11, 2025. Our 34 student volunteers and chapter faculty advisor will be serving alongside Panamanian physicians, dentists, optometrists, and pharmacists to provide sustainable healthcare services to rural communities. To prepare, we are asking businesses and individuals in our community for donations to create health kits and offset costs associated with this endeavor. Please note that we understand that many of you already greatly support our campus and community. Therefore, any quantity of donation will be greatly appreciated and formally acknowledged. Not to mention, donations not used for the brigade will be utilized to support our local volunteer events.
