As many of you may know, my brother-in-law Nick Leonoff, a renowned glass artist in Carmel Valley suffered a major loss this week as a fire engulfed his glass blowing studio. Ironically, the fire did not come from his furnace, but from the building across the alley that was a raging inferno at 3AM. His Center Street Marketplace studios, along with many other businesses in the building suffered extensive fire, smoke, and water damage. The Center Street Marketplace building is now boarded up indefinitely and will need extensive repairs if not a complete rebuild.
Nick is well known and loved in the community for his hand-blown glass pumpkins, and for founding the Glass Pumpkin Patch of Carmel in support of the MEarth organization. His contemporary glass Portal sculptures are celebrated nationally in the artglass community.
This GoFundMe is an attempt to help Nick both with lost income and in relocating his business. If you are a friend of Nick and/or my sister Lauren, a glass enthusiast, a pumpkin collector, a supporter of the arts, or you would like to help Nick continue creating his art, please consider supporting him here.
Many thanks,
Heather Lazare
