The Story Behind GiGi’s House

GiGi’s House was born from the heart-wrenching yet inspiring journey of our founder, Amanee Yasmeen Adams. Amanee's mother, Gladys Thomas, was a resilient single mother who raised her daughter amidst the challenges of urban life in Newark, NJ. Despite the obstacles, Gladys instilled in Amanee the values of strength, perseverance, and compassion.

Amanee's journey took a challenging turn when her husband's mother passed away, followed by the heartbreaking loss of her own mother, Gladys, just one month before the birth of her daughter, Zhuri. Gladys, who had watched her daughter study and work tirelessly, never got to see Amanee achieve her dream of becoming an assistant principal. This year, Amanee began her first year as an assistant principal at a high school in South Florida, successfully improving the school’s overall rating.

These profound losses during such pivotal moments in her life ignited a fierce determination in Amanee to create a legacy that would honor her mother’s memory and support other women and girls facing similar hardships.

Our Mission and Vision

At GiGi’s House, our mission is to empower and support women and girls from low-income areas by providing access to essential resources and opportunities that promote their well-being, education, and overall success. We envision a future where economic circumstances do not limit the opportunities and potential of women and girls. Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty and create a more equitable society where every woman and girl can achieve her dreams and aspirations.
