Gaudymar and her family (daughters ages 17, 6 and 1 years old) are struggling to get stabilized and find housing after fleeing recently from Texas, where the immigration crackdown and campaign of fear in communities is really fierce. Police and ICE collaborate openly and create panic as they target any and all public places like bus stops and transit stations. She's says it was hard to be anywhere outside for fear of being swept away and separated from her children. Before leaving, Gaudymar unfortunately lost her wallet which contained her work permit. Along the way, they were stopped on the road and her cousin and brother were detained. The car they were driving was impounded with all their belongings including her daughter's legal documents. Gaudymar and her family managed to arrive here and have been staying on a friend's living room floor searching for support and housing. She was recently pulled over for not having her car registered in Oregon, which is also a costly endeavor that she is in the process of working on but she does not yet have the funds to cover. Sometimes they go to a local store parking lot and offer to carry bags and load cars for small tips.
Gaudymar and her family originally fled their home country of Venezuela due to the economic crisis. She says they would work all week and make maybe $20, not enough to survive. They are anxious to stabilize their living situation, recuperate their documents, and begin working to support their family and build a new life here.
Any contributions will go to the cost of replacing her work permit (estimated at $600) and supporting this family to meet their basic needs while they are getting stabilized after losing so much.
