Gabriela and her 2 year old daughter need help after their recent family separation due to ICE. They just moved here from Chicago where their family had been living and working until one day Gabriela’s husband was taken by ICE while he was out at the gas station filling up their tank. He was unjustly detained and deported in May of this year, after which Gabriela was left alone without other family or supports nearby. Aside from the pain and fear of suddenly losing her partner and the baby’s father, their main source of household income and financial stability was eliminated. Without many options, Gabriela managed to move back to Portland where she had a supportive friend who was going through a similar situation.
Gabriela originally left Venezuela because of threats against her family. Her parents were involved in politics and life became dangerous for them so they fled to Colombia. There she met her partner, who had a son in the US and they moved together in hopes of a better life. Once they were living in Chicago, Gabriela became pregnant and had a baby. Her daughter is now 2 years old and is in the beginning stages of being diagnosed with autism. Her special needs in addition to her young age, make it very hard for Gabriela to work at this time.
This family humbly asks for your financial support to contribute to their needs for stable housing, living expenses, and supports for Gabriela’s daughter. Contributions of any size will be incredibly useful and appreciated.
