Frome Musical Theatre Company (FMTC, formerly Frome Amateur Operatic Society) has been performing in Frome since 1906. Our shows have always been self-supported and only ever relied on the revenue from ticket sales with any profits made being put back in to youth development through Spellbound (our youth group), donated to the Memorial Theatre or reinvested in future shows.
However, with the rising costs around the production of shows and a recent devastating loss of £20, 000 on our May show, we are asking for help to ensure that FMTC can survive and continue to produce spectacular shows for the people of Frome and surrounding areas.
We have to fundraise £30,000 for FMTC to continue.
Unfortunately, our attendance for Anything Goes in May of this year was only 40%, much lower than expected hence our reserves have been wiped out. This has put future productions and indeed the future of FMTC at risk.
The cost of sound, lighting, costumes, orchestra and performance rights that go into putting on our much-loved shows has escalated over the years and our annual pantomime and spring show now cost up to £50,000. We have always tried to keep ticket prices to a minimum but we are now asking for help from our members and audiences.
We are desperately sad to be in this situation and hope that through our fundraising efforts and with the support of the town, we can continue to provide entertainment for the people of Frome and the surrounding area
