I’m a neighbor of the Community Free Fridge located near SE 29th & Gladstone. This fridge and pantry have become an essential resource for our neighborhood—offering free, accessible food to anyone who needs it. As we head into the colder months, we need to make a few important upgrades to keep this community resource safe, functional, and welcoming.
Your support will help fund the following improvements:
1. A Reliable, Full-Size Fridge
The last fridge stopped cooling properly, making it unsafe to store perishable foods. A temporary fridge was donated (thank you, neighbors!), but it isn’t a long-term solution. We’re raising funds to purchase a durable, energy-efficient fridge that can handle year-round use.
2. Rebuilding and Weatherizing the Shed/Pantry
The current shed was originally built around an oddly sized fridge and is now worn down from weather and constant use. To keep food dry, clean, and safe—and to properly house a new fridge—we need to rebuild the structure and weatherize it for Portland’s fall and winter conditions.
3. Replacing the Garbage Can & String Lights
With shorter days and darker evenings, good lighting helps keep the space safe and welcoming. We also need a sturdy garbage bin to help keep the area clean and manageable for the neighbors who maintain it.
4. Supporting Utility & Trash Costs
A generous neighbor hosts the fridge in their driveway. Part of the funds will help cover the increased utility and trash expenses they take on to support the entire community.
Any remaining funds will go towards supplying the fridge/pantry with goods.
