My sweet pup, Frankie, has some medical stuff going on. I am heartbroken. You can see pictures and videos of him here With rescue pups, you know you take on a risk of these things happening. I want to tell you a bit about him. Even though I already talk about him all the time, you can put up with more of me talking about how much this little critter means to me.
I got Frankie on January 13th at a transport stop from his rescue in Texas. He was so shy and scared when we got home, he hid in his crate for the better part of a week. He would sometimes come out to me and give me kisses and would go back in. We also had other problems and I had friends who helped me through those as I navigated new to doggy parenthood times. (Lots of texts, phone calls, facetimes, etc!) We did overcome them. It took time for him to come out of his shell with humans that are not me and even more time to interact confidently with humans. He now snuggles up to humans he knows well and accepts love and attention.
This sweet, sweet boy will tug at his leash if he is not ready to return home from a walk - initiating tug-of-war until I tell him to stop. He's the dog that will make loops around the perimeter of a baseball field outrunning his friends by half a lap. He's the dog that will leap through the air or run like a gazelle to catch a frisbee or ball or say hello to his friends. He is the one who steals hearts when he gently takes treats from the palm of someone's hands. He knows how to entertain himself and can explore places on his own with or without a pack of friends. He loves peanut butter, yogurt mixed with his doggy cheddar cheese spread, will scream when he yawns, has many different faces expressing how he is feeling, and is generally my best friend and family. He's the biggest goofball there is!
I wasn't going to start a GoFundMe because it feels too public but some of this will not be covered by insurance. Every bit will help because I also have additional expenses as a consequence of this extra care. He'll need a very experienced pet care provider when I am away and won't be able to go to his usual favorite boarding and doggy daycare facility for a few months. I am only asking for a thousand dollars since any more feels like too much to ask for from people who love and care about us. It is likely his costs will be 2000 dollars when all is said and done.
