Help Four Neighbours Rebuild After the Pyrénées-Orientales Wildfires

The recent wildfires in the Pyrénées-Orientales have left several neighbouring households with nothing but the clothes they escaped in. This fundraiser has been created to support four neighbours whose homes and lives were devastated by the fire.

1. Our Connection to the Donors and the Beneficiaries

We are P-O Life Magazine, a regional English-language magazine serving the Pyrénées-Orientales community.

We heard directly from people affected by the fires and, as members of the local community ourselves, wanted to create this fundraiser to help these four households begin rebuilding their lives. Donations are being made by members of the wider community who wish to support people affected by the devastating wildfires.

To protect the privacy and security of the people affected, pseudonyms are used for the four beneficiaries named below. These are not their real names, and the pseudonyms have been used solely for privacy reasons. The beneficiaries have nevertheless been identified and verified as part of the necessary fundraising process.

Among those affected are:

Claire, a woman who lost her home, all of her belongings and her beloved dog. She is currently staying with friends while trying to rebuild her life.

Marie, a grandmother who lost her home and possessions. Several of her pets did not survive, while others required urgent veterinary care. She is temporarily living with family.

David and Emma, a couple whose home of more than 20 years was completely destroyed, leaving them with nothing.

Thomas, another resident who lost years of hard work, including a food forest project, vegetable gardens, tools, treasured family memories and nearly all personal belongings. While he has temporary accommodation, everything he built has been lost.

These weren't just houses — they were homes lovingly created over many years. They represented countless hours of hard work, hopes for the future and irreplaceable memories.

One other neighbour who also lost everything in the fire is already being supported through a separate fundraiser, allowing this appeal to focus on helping these four households.

2. How the Funds Will Be Transferred to the Designated Recipients

The funds raised will be divided between the four affected households.

Once the funds are released, the designated recipients will receive access to their respective share of the funds, allowing them to withdraw and use the money directly according to their individual needs.

The funds are being raised on their behalf because we wanted to help bring the local community together to support them following the devastating loss of their homes and possessions. The four designated recipients will ultimately receive and control their respective shares.

P-O Life will provide appropriate confirmation of the distribution of the funds once the beneficiaries have received them.

3. How the Funds Will Be Used

The money will be used to help the four households rebuild their lives following the loss of their homes and possessions.

Each household will have different needs, so the recipients themselves will decide how best to use their share of the funds. This could include clothing, household items, essential personal belongings, tools, food, temporary living expenses, or other necessities as they begin to rebuild.

There is no single way to rebuild after losing almost everything, and we want the people affected to have the freedom to use the support where it is most needed.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference.
