Support for the whanau of Bennett Pomana

Kia ora, my name is Mel and Im here to ask for your financial support for my cousin and her whanau due to a very sad and unfortunate event that has altered their lives.

On Tuesday the 13th December, 2022, Bennett Pomana, partner of my cousin and father of 10 children, was suddenly put on life Support in Wellington ICU being diagnosed with Septicemia.

Septicemia is an infection that occurs when bacteria enter the bloodstream and spread. It has lead to sepsis, the body’s reaction to the infection, which can cause organ damage and even death. Bennetts case has been extreme in that it has included liver, kidney, lung and bowel failure.

As of today, he is still in Wellington hospital fighting this aggressive disease.

As if the disease wasn't enough, he has a partner and children at home who still have to try to continue to live their lives while dealing with this blow to their family. Financially this is a massive strain on the whanau as Bennett can neither work, nor his partner as she supports his physical illness. This is important as there is a house to be paid for, food to be put in the cupboards, and bills to be paid.

Because of the severity of Bennetts Septicemia/sepsis, it's is going to be a very long and slow journey to the "safe zone" and then recovery will be even longer spanning many months.

Ive been made aware of the many people who want to contribute to this whanau but didn't know how And so I have set this up so you can give whatever you feel you can. Big or small, it will all make a difference.

This money will be used to pay rent, weekly food, power bills, petrol to travel to Bennett to be with him and get the kids to school for normalcy, and all essential household bills. Dont forget that its also a week out from Christmas.

To end I'd like to send out a huge thank you to all whanau and friends who have supported Bennett, my cousin and their children in such tremendous ways. From Prayers to visits, to voice messages, social media posts, dinner deliveries, special packages, babysitting and many other forms of support. We, the wider family, cannot thank you enough for your unwavering sympathy and acts of kindness.

Nga mihi,
Melissa De La Mare.
