My name is Courtney Holbrook, and I am raising funds for my immediate family, Shawn Holbrook (father), Amy Holbrook (step-mother), Maxwell Holbrook (brother) and niece Olivia Holbrook (age 16). The fire also impacted a cat (Gracie) and a dog (Millie). Unfortunately on 3/31/26 at 3:13 in the evening, a fire broke out in the garage of their family home. The fire started in the garage and was beginning to spread within their home. The fire was put out by the Oswego Fire Department, but due to smoke damage, the house was deemed uninhabitable. My father and brother were treated for minor injuries due to smoke inhalation, but thankfully everyone made it out okay.
In a matter of moments, they lost not only their belongings, but also the place where we built our memories and felt safe. This was also my family home where a lot of joy and irreplaceable memories occurred. While I am incredibly grateful that everyone made it out unharmed, but they are now facing the overwhelming challenge of starting over. I am asking for support to help them cover immediate necessities like clothing, food, temporary housing, basic household items and insurance deductibles as they work to rebuild their lives. Any contribution, no matter the size, means the world to them during this difficult time.
Sadly, the Holbrook family is no strangers to losses. Through the years my parents have grieved the losses of a grandchild (Robbie), a son (Michael) in 2024 and my grandfather last year. My family has always been my rock. They also took on a role of grandparents raising a grandchild, raising my niece since age 5. They are the strongest people I know and I would be lost without them. It breaks my heart to the core that they are going through yet another devastating loss. My family has always taught me that through the darkest of times, there is always joy, happiness and hope to be found. I will end this with the lessons dad and Amy has always taught me. No matter what happens in life, there is so much resiliency in the human spirit. Vulnerability and strength can co-exist with each other, and there is always humor even in life's darkest moments. They are the strongest people I know, and I hope I can be that strength and rock to them, like they've always have been for me.
Thank you for your kindness, generosity, and for helping us take the first steps toward recovery.
