Kathy Hoffman tragically passed away on March 25, 2026. She leaves behind her loving husband, Mike Hoffman, an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame, and their two children, Luke (age 7) and Ellie (age 2). Kathy was a devoted mother and wife, and her warmth touched everyone who knew her. Her passing has left a profound void in the lives of her family and friends.
Mike now faces the immense challenge of caring for Luke and Ellie while navigating his own grief. Ellie, who is diagnosed with Down Syndrome, receives ongoing therapy and specialized care, adding to the family's needs during this difficult time. Help with meals, cleaning, and childcare will allow Mike to focus on his children and give them the space they need to grieve and heal. Support for Ellie's therapy and medical appointments will be especially meaningful as the family adjusts to their new reality.
Special note to the Notre Dame community: Mike is a proud member of the Class of 2010, and the Notre Dame spirit has always been a big part of his family’s life. Luke, in particular, is a huge ND football fan and lights up every game day. We know the Notre Dame family looks out for its own, and your support will mean the world as we share this with alumni and friends.
Mike is one of the kindest and most thoughtful people you could ever meet. He would never ask for this kind of help himself, which is why we are reaching out on his behalf. Please consider supporting Mike, Luke, and Ellie as they face this unimaginable loss. Your generosity will help ease their burdens and provide comfort and stability in the weeks and months ahead.
