Helping Terry Restore His Home, Health, and Stability
Updated: 5/3/26
My name is Bethany, and I’m organizing this fundraiser after seeing a post Terry made on the Nextdoor app. In his message, he shared that he has been struggling with serious health and mobility issues and can no longer keep up with his home or yard. He wrote out of frustration and exhaustion — not to ask for money, but because he didn’t know what else to do.
Terry has been through a tremendous amount of loss and change over the years. His wife passed away 12 years ago from frontotemporal dementia, a long and heartbreaking illness. After her passing, he eventually formed a close companionship with a lady friend who became an important part of his life. She later developed significant medical problems of her own and moved into a nursing home about three years ago. She is still living, but her move left Terry alone again, without the support he once had.
As Terry’s health declined — physically, emotionally, and financially — it became harder for him to keep up with daily tasks, home maintenance, and even basic needs. He lives with his two pets, Nina, his blind senior dog, and Athena, his cat. They are his comfort and his family, but caring for them has also become more difficult as his mobility has worsened.
When Terry posted on Nextdoor, more than 200 people responded with kindness, encouragement, and offers to help. But no one had yet taken the lead to organize the effort. I reached out to Terry directly, got his permission, and began coordinating volunteers, dates, and tasks so the community’s generosity could turn into real support.
A group of volunteers has already begun cleaning, hauling, organizing, and making the home safer. We’ve made huge progress, but there is still a long way to go. His home needs continued cleanup, repairs, and replacement of essential items that were no longer usable. He also needs support with transportation, medical appointments, and basic necessities while he works on getting stable again.
Terry is a proud man who has lived in this home for decades. Asking for help is incredibly difficult for him, so I’m asking on his behalf.
Your donation will help with:
Deep cleaning and removal of unsafe items
Repairs to the home and yard
Replacement of essential furniture and household items
Supplies for continued cleanup and organization
Support for Terry’s medical needs and transportation
Care items for Nina (blind dog) and Athena (cat)
Volunteer Days:
We will be at Terry’s house today, 5/3/26, from 10am–3pm, and we expect to be back next Saturday at 10am. Anyone who wants to help — even for a short time — is welcome. Every pair of hands makes a difference.
This community has already shown Terry more compassion than he ever expected. With your support, we can finish what we started and give him a safe, stable home again — for himself, for Nina, and for Athena.
Thank you for reading, thank you for caring, and thank you for helping us lift Terry back up.
