On April 5th, Steve sustained a serious flexor tendon injury on his way home from work at the Salt Spring Inn. Unfortunately at Steve’s most recent Doctor’s appointment he was told it will be at least another month before he’ll be able to work again. So far Steve is still waiting for medical EI or disability leave, and even when he starts receiving support, his family will still have a significant financial shortfall for basic living expenses like rent, food, utilities, and recycling.

Steve & Zama and their two daughters live simply and frugally, and don’t have any savings to draw from. Zama is already working super long hours at her business.

Steve and Zama have lived on Salt Spring Island since 2008, moving from Vancouver to raise their children, and Zama has spent significant parts of her life on the Island. Both Zama and Steve have worked full time since moving here (apart from during the strangest parts of COVID).

Zama regularly donates spa treatments and products from her business to individuals in need within the community and to support local causes like Stagecoach Theatre School and other organizations.

It’s vulnerable for Steve and Zama to ask for help via GoFundMe, and it would be an amazing blessing to receive some community support while Steve’s hand heals, especially given the continued wait for government support.
