Last week, Steve and Monica Burman of East Troy, Wisconsin, were 34 weeks along in their third pregnancy, eagerly anticipating the arrival of their newborn son.
Within a day, their whole world was turned upside down. After elevated blood pressure resulted in Monica undergoing an emergency C-section on September 25th, she began to suffer from critical complications as a result of a blood infection. In order to save her life, she was transferred to a different hospital, which was better equipped to care for her severe condition. Since that time, under the care of a team of numerous specialists, she has already endured multiple surgeries, and continues to fight for her life.
Due to the early arrival of their son, he remains in the NICU. He continues to do well every day and is progressing as expected, largely in part to the amazing nursing staff at his hospital. There's optimism that he will be home in the near future.
At home, Steve is doing everything he can to provide normalcy and care for their two young children, ages 6 and 3. With Monica and their son at two separate hospitals, the challenge of needing to be in three places at once is impossibly overwhelming, both physically and emotionally. On top of this, the pressure of needing to return to work soon makes the situation even more difficult. Steve is a loving father and husband who would do anything for his family, but the circumstances of their current situation are unimaginably difficult for one person to manage on their own.
While Steve and Monica have a circle of family and friends who are doing their best to provide support, with so many uncertainties and challenges right now, your help would make a world of difference towards an inconceivable situation.
Your generous contributions to the Burman family will be used to support their most urgent needs, including but not limited to:
Medical bills: With Monica and their son currently on extended stays in two separate hospitals, the medical bills are anticipated to be substantial, even with insurance.
Childcare & household help: Monica is a proud and devoted stay-at-home mother, but for the foreseeable future, she won’t be able to provide the care her family depends on. As the sole income provider for their family, Steve will now take on the role of primary caregiver for a newborn and two young children for an uncertain period, all while trying to work as much as possible. Even with his best efforts, balancing these responsibilities will be extremely challenging without regular additional support. This may require hiring assistance to aid with household responsibilities and childcare.
Everyday needs: Everyday expenses will quickly add up for the Burman family. This includes mortgage and groceries, travel to and from the hospital(s), diapers and formula for the baby, utilities, ongoing therapies, and any unforeseen costs that may arise. Your support can help cover these essential needs and ease the enormous burden they are facing.
Your generous donations will go directly to supporting the Burman family through the most challenging time of their lives.
