My daughter is a very bright, kind and caring person. She always puts others before herself. She is full of joy and love. Shaylynn has a seizure disorder caused by genetic defects in her brain and she takes upwards of 17 seizures per day, it has effected her mobility and quality of life. This is her story.

On December 2nd 2025, my daughters life changed drastically. She called me on her lunch break she could barely talk and the words she was able to get were slurred and made no sense. She was taken to BGH and after having a cat scan done which showed her left side of her brain was smaller then the right , she was transferred to KGH. During her stay she had 3 eegs done and a mri she was released after 6 days. During her stay we received shocking information. My daughter was born with complicated genetic defects that effected the left side of her brain. She has a complex condition effects only the left side of her brain. She has areas that did not develop. Since December she has averaged 3 to 17 seizures per day. Many medications have been tried in hope of stabilizing her seizures. She has many out of town appointments and is on the wait list for sick kids Toronto. She has been rushed to the hospital via ambulance numerous times, on one occasion the ALS paramedics were called to assit. Due to her complex condition I have had take a leave from work to care for her as she can not be left alone. It is uncertain how her condition will progress. Any specialist we have spoken to have expressed how its a miracle it took 16 years for any complications to surface due to her condition. That generally babies with her condition do not make it out of the womb. She has to use a wheelchair daily for mobility and on her rare good she is able to get up and walk with a walker for brief periods of time. She sees a physio therapist regularly in hopes of maintaining the strength in her legs. All funds will go towards the on going care for Shaylynn, any medical equipment required to provide the best quality of life possible for my daughter aswell as her many out of town trips to kingston and Toronto to see specialists and further hospital admissions.
