My mother, Sharon Papp, has been supporting me and my sister our entire lives as a single mother in Long Island, NY. Due to covid and a delayed chain of necessary actions, her teaching certificate hasn’t been processed in time for her to resume working this school year as a special education art teacher for the NYC Department of Education and they have terminated her position. While working full time and supporting our household, she got her third degree in college: her masters in Fine Art, required to continue teaching. Because she had to take these classes at her own pace, she had to fight to let her university grant her her diploma months early in order to be within the allowed time frame. She did this! But because of covid, everything was delayed within the system and she’s been constantly calling, emailing, and reaching out to all of her representatives in order to push her certification through to continue teaching at her job. The processing is out of her hands but she’s been doing everything she possibly can. Today was the day she was hoping for good news, she’s been working on this for more than 9 months, but today she was told things are still at a standstill and her principal can only hold her job until the school year starts. She FINALLY secured this NYC job that was paying her a salary she deserves after years of instability and financial crisis and now she is losing it due to no fault of her own. When she got this job 2 years ago, she was able to stop the foreclosure process of our house which we had been in since 2011. Now we’re back at square one and if a mortgage payment is missed, the foreclosure process will begin again and we’ll lose the home she’s done everything to keep. She wants to get a lawyer to fight what is happening but she has to choose between lawyer fees, the mortgage, car payments, groceries, etc. It hurts so much to see her go through this because she’s the strongest, most hardworking and loving person I’ve ever met. I feel so powerless and it hurts me so bad to see her cry. We really need help. We have no savings and no other back up plans. Our health insurance ends September 1, 2020. Any donation you can make would be immensely appreciated.
