Hello everyone,
My name is Leonardo De Oliveira Fabris, and together with my wife, Damaris, we are fighting a daily battle to support our three beautiful children—Samuel, Evelyn, and Elisa.
For nearly 20 years, we lived in the United Kingdom, where all three of our children were born. Our lives changed completely when two of them, Samuel and Elisa, were diagnosed with Usher Syndrome and severe hearing loss. Usher Syndrome is a rare genetic condition that progressively affects both hearing and vision.
To ensure they receive the best specialized medical care, we relocated to Elche (Alicante), Spain. Samuel and Elisa are currently treated by specialists at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe in Valencia.
While we are deeply grateful for this medical support, our financial and physical reality has become completely unsustainable:
* The Public Transport Burden: We do not own a car because we cannot afford one. Traveling from Elche to Valencia for medical appointments means relying entirely on public transportation (trains and buses) with three children, two of whom have severe sensory disabilities. Because the appointments are intensive, we have to travel a day early, paying for tickets, a hotel for the night, and meals on the road every single time. It is exhausting and incredibly expensive.
* One Single Income: Because Samuel and Elisa require constant, round-the-clock care, my wife Damaris cannot work outside the home. I am the sole provider for our family of five.
* The Financial & Mental Toll: My monthly salary is €1,437, plus a small social aid of €300, making a total income of €1,737 per month. However, we pay €800 just for rent, leaving us with very little to cover electricity, water, and groceries. Adding the high costs of public transport for our medical trips has left us drowning. The stress has taken a massive toll on my health, and I am currently on prescription medication just to cope with the anxiety and pressure of keeping my family afloat.
We have official medical reports from both the UK and Spain confirming their diagnoses. We are hardworking parents, but we have reached our absolute limit. We cannot do this alone anymore.
How your donation will help:
Every euro raised will go directly toward covering public transport tickets to the hospital in Valencia, overnight accommodations for the medical trips, daily specialized care items for Samuel and Elisa, and ensuring we don't lose our home.
Living abroad means we do not have our extended family nearby to lean on. You are our community now. Any donation, no matter how small, or simply sharing our link, will mean the world to Leonardo, Damaris, Samuel, Evelyn, and Elisa.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, prayers, and empathy.
God bless you,
The Oliveira Fabris Family.
