Help Sam and His Family Prepare for His Return Home ❤️

We are Sam’s best friends, and we are coming together to raise funds to help Sam and his family adapt their home in preparation for his return.

Sam’s Story

In May this year, Sam was doing what he does best, being an amazing dad to his three children.

With the early summer sunshine arriving, he spent time visiting store after store across Birmingham, determined to find a swimming pool so his children could enjoy the start of summer. He never gave up, and eventually he found one. The family were having a wonderful time together over the Spring Bank Holiday, making memories and enjoying a day of fun.

Tragically, everything changed in an instant.

While in the pool, Sam dived in and struck the bottom headfirst, breaking bones in his neck and suffering a devastating spinal cord injury. His wife and children had to get him out of the water as he lay motionless.

What had started as a happy family day became every family’s worst nightmare.

Sam was rushed to hospital, where the extent of his injuries became clear. He had lost movement and control below his neck. Nobody can say for certain if, how or when he will regain movement. For Sam, his wife Brogan and their three children, this news has been utterly devastating.

In a moment, their whole world changed.

A Long and Uncertain Road Ahead

Sam spent the first few months at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham before being transferred to the specialist spinal injuries unit at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry.

Throughout this incredibly difficult journey, his family have been by his side, supporting him every step of the way.

When Sam was eventually ready to see his friends, we visited him in hospital. He could only move his arms slightly, and it was heartbreaking to see just how much his life had changed. We knew he faced a long and challenging road, with so many unanswered questions about what the future would hold.

But one thing that has never changed is Sam himself.

He is still the same hilarious, quick-witted bloke we all know and love, still cracking jokes whenever we visit. His positivity and determination in the face of such adversity have been incredible to witness. We are immensely proud of him.

Progress has been slow, and now the family have been given a discharge date that has come as a huge shock. Sam is still unable to move anything other than his arms and head, and there is an enormous amount to do to ensure his home is ready for him.

Why We Need Your Help

Getting Sam home is what we all want, but his return will require significant building work and adaptations to make the family home safe, accessible and suitable for his needs.

The money raised will go towards:

Major home adaptations, including reconfiguring the ground floor to accommodate Sam’s needs.
Accessible entry and ramps, so Sam can get in and out of his home safely.
A ground floor bedroom and accessible shower room, allowing him to live as comfortably and independently as possible.
Essential specialist equipment needed to support Sam’s daily care.
Additional physiotherapy and rehabilitation, helping him work towards the best possible recovery and make the most of every opportunity to regain movement and independence.

These are not optional luxuries. They are essential changes that will help Sam return home to his wife and children and give the family the best possible environment to face the challenges ahead.

All of this comes at an enormous financial cost, at a time when the family have already lost much of their income and are dealing with more than any family should ever have to face.

Brogan and the children need to focus on Sam, his recovery and rebuilding their lives together not the overwhelming financial burden of making their home suitable for his return.

Please Help Us Get Sam Home

As Sam’s friends, we want to do everything we can to support him and his family through this incredibly difficult time.

We cannot take away what has happened, and we cannot predict what the future holds. But together, we can help make the next chapter a little easier.

Every donation, no matter how small, will make a difference. If you are unable to donate, sharing this page with your friends, family and wider community would mean just as much to us.

All donations will go directly to Brogan’s bank account to help fund the adaptations, equipment and additional support Sam needs.

Sam has a long road ahead of him, but he is not doing it alone. He has a loving family, an incredible group of friends and a community who can come together to make a real difference.

Let’s give Sam the chance to come home to his family in a safe, accessible home, surrounded by the people he loves, with the support he needs for the journey ahead.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading, donating and sharing.

Friends of Sam ❤️
