We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the unexpected loss of our beloved brother, Rodney White.
It is with great sadness and disbelief that we announce the unexpected passing of Lieutenant Rodney White, who succumbed to an illness on Saturday, July 6th .
The Newport News Fire Department family is deeply affected by the loss of Rodney. His absence leaves a void that is felt by all of us. Lieutenant White, who was 43 years old, joined us in Aug 2006 and served with dedication for 18 years.
While reserved, private, and quiet, Lt. White was a beautiful soul with a kind spirit that would give you more than the shirt off his back. He was a passionate and aggressive firefighter determined to do the job. Even after completing his National Registry Paramedic certification, he continued reaching back to others, lending a hand to ensure they were successful. He was not required to ride the medic as an officer. However, he did so to keep his skills current and give his co-workers a break when needed. He continued to find ways to elevate his qualifications by completing the requirements to become a fill-in safety officer, and he diligently prepared himself to compete in the upcoming Captain's process.
As we mourn Rodney's passing, we are reminded of the importance of community. Rodney leaves behind a wife and a 5-year-old daughter, and it is our collective responsibility to support them during this difficult time. This GoFundMe account has been established to assist his family with any financial burden. We understand that there will always be unexpected expenses that insurance will not cover, and we are committed to ensuring that his family is taken care of.
