Support for Rebecca’s Recovery After Car Accident

UPDATE: We wanted to share an important update on Rebecca’s condition. She has been discharged home per the neurology team, who confirmed that the bleeding in her brain has stopped. This is a relief, but her recovery is far from over. She is awake, breathing on her own, and as alert as she can be right now — but she is still extremely fragile and needs a tremendous amount of rest and time to heal.

At the moment, Rebecca is only waking for very short periods and is unable to hold conversations. She becomes easily aroused but is confused and disoriented when she does wake. She doesn’t know what day it is and believes we are still in February. One moment she’ll say she’s just tired and in pain, and the next she’s asking if she needs to call out of work. She even thinks she spent today visiting her father‑in‑law. This confusion is heartbreaking to witness.

Although she is home, this stage is incredibly overwhelming for Joey and the kids. They try talking to their mom, but she drifts back to sleep or doesn’t respond. The doctors feel that being in her own environment — hearing her children, the dogs, and familiar sounds — is the best place for her right now. However, she cannot be left alone under any circumstances. She is very dizzy, lightheaded, and at high risk of falling if she lifts her head from the pillow. She is also not eating or drinking, either because she’s too tired to stay awake or because she’s refusing.

The neurology team will reassess her in a week, but until then, home care is the safest and most supportive option. This is an incredibly difficult time for the entire family, and they are doing everything they can to keep her safe and comfortable.

Thank you to everyone who has donated, shared, prayed, or reached out. Your support means more than you know. Please continue to keep Rebecca and her family in your thoughts as they navigate this frightening and uncertain part of her recovery.

Rebecca is a devoted mother of three and a compassionate registered nurse who has spent the last eight years welcoming new life into the world in the labor and delivery unit at Jersey Shore. She is the kind of person who pours her heart into everything she does — a gentle presence for anxious parents, a steady hand in moments of crisis, and a source of warmth and comfort for anyone lucky enough to know her. At home, she and her husband, Joey, have spent eleven years building a life filled with love, laughter, and the beautiful chaos of raising their 10‑year‑old, 9‑year‑old, and 20‑month‑old children. They also have custody of their 21-year-old nephew, who is an important part of their family.

On January 9th, 2026, everything changed in an instant. After visiting their father in the hospital, Rebecca and Joey were driving home on Route 33 when a box truck made an illegal left turn out of a 7‑Eleven, cutting across four lanes of traffic. The intersection sits just beyond a bend — and although Rebecca had a green light and the right of way, she never had a chance to see the truck coming. She tried desperately to brake and swerve, but their car was forced underneath the truck. When first responders arrived, Rebecca was not breathing. She was rushed to the ICU with a traumatic brain bleed, while Joey and their children were left clinging to hope, praying for the woman who is the heart of their family.

Rebecca now faces a long, uncertain road to recovery. She will be out of work for the foreseeable future, and Joey is doing everything he can — caring for their children, their nephew, managing their home, and staying by Rebecca’s side as she fights her way back. The weight of medical bills, daily expenses, and the emotional toll of this tragedy is overwhelming. This family needs support — not just financially, but emotionally, spiritually, and as a community standing behind them. Your kindness, your prayers, your words of encouragement, your willingness to share Rebecca’s story — all of it matters. All of it helps. Every gesture, no matter how small, lifts this family up during the darkest chapter of their lives. If you’re able, please hold Rebecca, Joey, their three beautiful children, and their nephew close in your heart. They are a family built on love, and right now, they need the world to surround them with that same love in return. Thank you for showing up for Rebecca — a woman who has spent her life showing up for so many others.
