Support for Pregnant Harlem Couple Facing Eviction

Donation protected
Over the last month, the couple, who are expecting their first child soon, has been harassed, threatened, and locked out of their apartment by a roommate who holds the lease. These threats have included frequent calls to the police, forcing the couple to seek shelter elsewhere as they look for safe and stable housing.

Due to COVID-19 layoffs, the couple has also lost their only source of income and are still waiting for their unemployment to be processed. This emergency fund will go directly toward their daily necessities and provide essential support for them as they search for a new home to start their family.

Our neighbor wanted to include this statement:

“I would also like to include that due to the lack of employment, and my girlfriend being in a car crash she is unable to work at the moment. Therefore gathering up money just for the first months rent and security deposit has been extremely difficult for me. My fiancé just graduated recently from college with her bachelors degree. She is focusing on continuing her masters. However, due to the car crash she is physically unable to do anything besides therapy at the moment. I was working as a security guard, as well as going to acting school however due to Covid both of those things have been put on hold. We are honestly seeking somewhere we can lay our heads, and not have to worry about packing up and moving again. This past year has just felt like a constant disappointment one after another. We are truly just trying to get back on track, find somewhere for us to call home and be stable for our family.”

We keep us safe by making sure our neighbors have a stable place to lay their head. Housing is a human right, and it is also a matter of public health. At a time of global pandemic, having safe housing is paramount to stopping the spread of COVID-19 and keeping our neighbors healthy.

Any amount helps, and the couple would like to extend their gratitude to anyone able to contribute even a few dollars during this difficult time. Most of all, they’d like your prayers and love as they get back on their feet.
