I'm raising this fund for my pregnant wife (due early December), our three young children (ages 3, 2, and 1), and myself. We've been living in a tent since April and can't afford to get out of this situation on our own.
Three years ago I broke my knee while working as a quarryman. I tore my meniscus, fractured my tibia, and had bone bruises in both the tibia and femur. I was out of work for about a year and a half.Recovery was delayed by medical problems—overworked physical therapy, allergic reactions to steroids and pain relievers, and a general lack of proper care.
I eventually had surgery, but my other knee was also damaged from compensating. A modest settlement came in and was quickly used up paying off our debts accrued while I was out of work recovering. When I was finally able to return to work, it was only part-time, for my father. We also lived in an apartment he owned.
About six months later, things took another bad turn. My parents came to believe I was trying to steal from them (related to me handling my grandmother's belongings for her while she was recovering in the hospital from a back injury). They fired me, evicted us, essentially disowned me, and physically assaulted and threatened me.
This was not necessarily a major surprise, as they had made similar threats of eviction over having conflicting Christmas plans with the in-laws after my family changed their plans without notifying us. They also threatened eviction when we told them we didn’t want them coming to see our newborn daughter the day she was born while they were all sick.
We were left without work or housing. Since then we've done the best we could. We stayed in a camper on my in-laws’ property from April to October of 2025. In August of 2025 I found a construction job and tried getting back to full-time, but my knees could not handle the workload. I left there in November to go to school for my Class A driver’s license. We rented a place over the winter, and I finally got my CDL in March of this year after several hiccups.
We ended up in a tent this spring because I was not able to get a job trucking like we had hoped. I applied and interviewed with many companies, but the job market is far more saturated in our area than I was led to believe. I've been working at a gas station for minimum wage since July. I bring home about $2,000 a month. Rent in our area starts at $1,500, and utilities are not included. We have been unable to even start to save for a security deposit and first month's rent. I have just finally received a job offer at the trucking company owned by the owner of the gas station I currently work at. I should be able to start in a few weeks, but even if I were to start tomorrow we would still be well over a month away from being able to cover the upfront costs of a place to live. We can’t stay in the tent that long, as it is already getting into the low 40s and upper 30s at night here.
We have tried to apply to all state-aid programs available, but these all have waiting lists a mile long and more often than not just send us back around to programs we’ve already applied to without success.
Unfortunately, our church is unable to help us get out of this situation. We have no other family who can take us in. We’ve turned everywhere we know and keep getting pointed somewhere else. We’ve been blessed in the past by the generosity of people we don’t even know, and asking again like this is hard.
Right now this is our last real hope. Any money raised would go toward getting us into a safe rental for the winter, helping us get a car large enough for our growing family, and catching up on the backlog of things we’ve been unable to afford since early this year, such as muffler repairs, tire and oil changes, replacing our dead headlight, getting caught up on car payment, insurance, and taxes, clothes and shoes for the kids, midwife fees (around $5k), and many more things which tend to pop up when we have any amount of money over $20.00.
We’re doing the best we can, but it’s hard not to lose faith when it seems like you just can’t get out of the pit. If you are able to help with a donation, a prayer, or by sharing this, it would mean the world to us. We’re ultimately just trying to get our family—especially our baby on the way—into a safe and warm home for the winter.
Thank you.
