My wife and I are expecting our second child at the end of this month, and we were excitedly preparing for the new arrival. But on March 13, I suddenly had to go to the emergency room, where doctors told me I needed surgery for my appendix. The surgery went well, but now I’m home recovering and unable to work for at least two weeks—right when our baby is due.

I’m the only one in our family with an income, and my job installing fiber optic internet is very physical. I have to crawl into tight spaces and climb ladders, but after surgery, I can’t bend or lift anything heavy. This means I can’t work and provide for my family during this critical time. We’re worried about covering our living expenses while I recover and as we welcome our new baby.
