My nephew has been diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that only affects 10-20 out of every One Million children. It began by swelling in his feet and, within two days, has caused permanent kidney damage. Since it is so rare, there isn't a lot of research, and the treatment can be long and drawn out, resulting in many Dr. Appts per week with possible hospital stays during the next year if not longer.

My brother has spent the last two weeks at his side at UK hospital and has not been able to work as he refused to leave his side. With all the upcoming appointments, he will need gas money, insurance, and specialty foods to prevent ongoing damage to his vital organs.

I know this is long-winded, but I want everyone to know that we would not have put up this page without a very good reason. We have always taken care of our own, but we don't know the length or degree of medical attention that this wonderful, smart, and articulate young man will need.
