On December 9th at 12:30 pm, I got the message from my mother that something horrible had happened to my uncle. That day, when I saw the message, I instantly knew what had happened. That whole week before this situation, I had a gut feeling something would happen. My uncle was detained by ICE and unlawfully pulled out of his work car. Ever since, my aunt and I have been trying to get him back to us. They have moved him to a facility that is hours away, which doesn’t allow us to go see him.

Although he is my uncle, since I did not grow up with a father, he was always my father in my eyes. He was the father figure I never knew I was missing. He would always take me on trips, spoil me, and take me anywhere he would go. There wasn’t a day where I wouldn’t be with him.

We decided to raise the goal because the situation has become more demanding than we expected. His kids will be struggling without him, and it’s been really hard trying to cover everything he used to help with. I’m also trying to support my aunt and the kids as much as I can, but the costs keep adding up between legal fees, and basic needs at home. He played such an important role in all of our lives, and without him here, it feels like everything has gotten heavier for all of us. The extra support will help us keep things steady for his children and for our family while we work to bring him back.

El 9 de diciembre a las 12:30 p. m., recibí el mensaje de mi madre de que algo horrible le había pasado a mi tío. Ese día, cuando vi el mensaje, supe al instante lo que había pasado. Toda esa semana antes de esta situación, tuve la sensación de que algo pasaría. Mi tío fue detenido por ICE y sacado ilegalmente de su coche de trabajo. Desde entonces, mi tía y yo hemos estado tratando de que vuelva a nosotros. Lo han trasladado a una instalación que está a horas de distancia, lo que no nos permite ir a verlo. Aunque es mi tío, ya que no crecí con un padre, siempre fue mi padre a mis ojos. Él era la figura paterna que nunca supe que me faltaba. Siempre me llevaba de viaje, me mimaba y me llevaba a cualquier lugar al que fuera. No hubo un día en el que no estuviera con él. Decidimos elevar el objetivo porque la situación se ha vuelto más exigente de lo que esperábamos. Sus hijos tendrán dificultades sin él, y ha sido muy difícil tratar de cubrir todo lo que solía ayudar. También estoy tratando de mantener a mi tía y a los niños tanto como pueda, pero los costos siguen sumando entre los honorarios legales y las necesidades básicas en casa. Jugó un papel tan importante en todas nuestras vidas, y sin él aquí, parece que todo se ha vuelto más pesado para todos nosotros.
