Support for Minnie and her daughter

Dani Sherwood and I are raising funds for an Inuk MMIWG2S+ survivor, Minnie, and her daughter. We first got to know Minnie when she was living in Montreal, and since then, she has returned back to her community in Inuit Nunagat. She is raising her daughter on her own, and while she is an amazing mother, she needs support from community. Minnie presently does not have much support and requires financial assistance to pay for housing, food, and basic needs for her daughter. Minnie has also survived a great deal of trauma, so having financial stability would also allow her to focus on her healing. Presently, Minnie is at risk of having involvement from the child welfare system, the very same system that caused her a great deal of harm.

Minnie is someone who has been failed by the child welfare system, the not for profit system, and the prison industrial complex. As a community, we cannot fail her further and we need to step up to offer our care and support for her and her daughter.

We see the calls for more money for non profits, but do you really know where this money goes when you give it to a not for profit organization? This is your chance to engage in an act of solidarity, not charity, and to directly benefit an Inuk MMIWG2S+ survivor.

For transparency, even though we cannot publicly share her name, Minnie's email is listed on the GoFundMe, so all of the funds will be deposited directly to her.
