On July 14th, my husband Matthew was in a serious motorcycle accident right in front of me and our two young children, Rylie (6) and Natalie (3), on Route 146 in Rhode Island. Thankfully, he survived, but he suffered a broken collarbone in three places, a bleeding spleen, bruised ribs, road rash, and possibly a broken foot. His recovery will be long and difficult—at least 12 weeks in a sling, with occupational therapy and counseling ahead. As a motorcycle mechanic, Matthew has always loved his work and the community it brings, but now he faces the uncertainty of whether he’ll ever be able to ride or work the same way again.
I recently stepped down from my job as a Dunkin manager to spend more time with our children and be together as a family. Now, with Matthew unable to work and our medical insurance recently cancelled, we’re facing a mountain of bills—gas, electric, food, and the unknown costs of hospital care, medication, and therapy. We’re grateful for the emotional support from family and friends, but financially, we’re struggling to keep up. I’ve reached out to local food banks, but I’m not sure how much help we’ll receive. It’s hard to ask for help, but I want to do everything I can for Matthew and our kids as we get through this together. Any support will go directly to keeping our home running and helping Matthew recover. Thank you for reading and for any kindness you can share with our family.
