Matthew and Ashlyn welcomed their daughter on April 10th, 2026. Just a week later, Ashlyn was rushed to the hospital after experiencing severe difficulty breathing. Doctors discovered fluid in her lungs caused by heart failure, and she was quickly admitted to the ICU and placed on a ventilator. The following day, Ashlyn was airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, where she was diagnosed with Postpartum Cardiomyopathy—a rare and serious condition that can affect mothers after childbirth.

Ashlyn spent seven days in the Wake Forest Critical Care Unit, fighting for her life while Matthew stayed by her side every moment. The first weeks of their daughter's life were marked by uncertainty and worry, as Ashlyn received intensive treatment and support from a dedicated medical team. Thankfully, she was eventually taken off the ventilator and began receiving medication to help heal her heart, which she will likely need for the rest of her life.

Matthew and Ashlyn now face a long road to recovery, but they are deeply grateful for the care Ashlyn received, the prayers and support from loved ones, and the strength of their faith.
