My mom Mary, has always been the kind of person who puts others first, offering help and support to anyone in need. Now, as her husband Ed faces the final stages of emphysema, pulmonary artery disease, and heart disease, she has stepped away from work to become his full-time caregiver. Every day, she is by Ed’s side—giving him his medicines, preparing his meals, helping him bathe, and providing the emotional support he needs. Their bond is incredibly strong, built over 30 years together and 25 of marriage, and it’s clear that their love has carried them through many challenges together.
Ed is an amazing person—outgoing, strong, and deeply loved by his friends and family. The number of people who have been part of his life is proof of the good-hearted man, husband, and father, and brother he is. When he was healthy, he enjoyed traveling and exploring new places. Ed truly loved life, and it’s incredibly hard to see him struggle now.
This time has been especially hard for Her. Watching her best friend and partner suffer is heartbreaking, and the financial strain of taking time off work has made things even more difficult. Needing groceries and household bills do not stop even though it feels like your world does. And just the emotional strain is enough, yet alone to worry about money and final expenses. Despite his own pain, Ed’s biggest concern is making sure she will be okay. He told me, “She is your mom, but she is my wife. I am supposed to take care of her.” He made me promise him I would do everything I could to support her since he will no longer be able to.
So to try to honor his wish and my promise, I’m raising funds to help my mom with groceries, bills, and the costs that come with saying goodbye to someone you love. Any support will make a real difference for her during this incredibly difficult time, and will help honor the love and care that her and Ed have shared for so many years. If you can donate anything, it will surely help. If you cant donate, any prayers or kind thoughts will be enough. We thank you for being a part of their story.
