Luc, a devoted volunteer camp host at Assateague State Park for over 15 years, recently endured a sudden and life-altering emergency while serving at the park. What should have been another season of warm welcomes and community spirit turned into an unexpected crisis that has upended his and his family’s lives.

Luc and his wife, Lucie, have long been a cherished part of the Assateague community—in various loops, where countless campers have been greeted with their kindness, generosity, and dedication. Whether answering questions, helping newcomers, or simply offering a friendly smile, they’ve made the park feel like home for so many.

Since the emergency, Lucie has remained by Luc’s side every step of the way. Their children are making repeated trips from Canada to support them during this incredibly difficult time. The emotional and financial challenges they’re facing are immense—and growing.
