Support for Lea, Marcus, & baby Maesyn

Baby Maesyn was determined to meet her parents as soon as possible! With her earlier than anticipated arrival at 25weeks and 1 day, Lea and Marcus expect Maesyn to be cared for in the NICU for over two months. As many people already know, Lea was getting over Covid when she found out she was pregnant with Maesyn. As pregnancy advanced some Covid symptoms subsided while other symptoms lingered. Both Lea and her doctors were uncertain whether the lingering symptoms were pregnancy related or long-term side effects from Covid. The doctors are also unable to say exactly why Lea went into preterm labor and the question of a Covid connection has crossed many people’s mind. In true Lea fashion, she participated in a survey looking at pregnancy and Covid-19, hoping she could help science progress its knowledge of how pregnant woman are impacted by Covid.

With Maesyn’s long road ahead in the NICU, it puts Lea in a difficult situation when thinking about returning to work. When Lea and Marcus are finally able to bringMaesyn home Lea will have limited time to bond with her daughter if she returns to work at the typical 12 week postpartum mark.

There is also the question of what type of work to return to. Lea was making headway into her career as a wildland firefighter and loved traveling the U.S. to fight fire. This year Maesyn will need her mama closer to home. Along with entering motherhood Lea also has to consider which direction to pivot in her career path.

Lea and Marcus have so much to navigate day to day during these next several months of Maesyn’s life. Let’s help relieve some of the financial pressure and let them focus on healing and bonding as a family.

Lea is such a dear friend of mine! Over the years she has been there time and time again when I’ve needed her. This is the least I can do to help her and her growing family with such a life altering journey. The transition to parenthood often requires growth and adjustment even without preterm labor, leftover Covid symptoms, and a career change. Thank you in advance for any contribution you are able to make.
