Hello Australian friends and fam

Over the last week I’ve been living and learning Spanish at a small, community-based school in Nicaragua called La Mariposa. What I thought would be a chilled week of lessons in nature actually exposed me to something much bigger - A truly impactful Not For Profit, quietly improving outcomes for the local community.

La Mariposa reinvests everything it can back into local families. For over 15 years, they’ve funded therapy and learning support for children with disabilities, run youth and education programs, created stable employment for local staff, supported families doing it tough, and restored the environment around them through reforestation projects and animal rescue.

All of these projects have been possible thanks to student intake. But Nicaragua has been hit hard by a long downturn in tourism (Trump times), and the school is now facing a really tough period. With fewer students, many of their programs, including therapy access for kids, feeding programs, youth support, and employment for dozens of local families are at risk of being ceased.

Unfortunately i’m only here for a few days more and really want to do something to support, so this Friday I’ve committed to running a marathon through town to help raise funds for La Mariposa and the projects that it’s families rely on.
