Support for Karl (Chuck) Bonawandt and Family
Donation protected
As many of you are aware, my brother-in-law, Karl (Chuck) Bonawandt was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in June of 2023 and has been battling ever since. Over the course of the past year and a half Chuck has had several 4-6 week stays at Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital (MSK) in NYC receiving chemotherapy treatments. When he wasn't staying at the hospital long term he was commuting into the city twice a week for treatments. Last winter Chuck received a Bone Marrow Transplant; his brother Chris was the donor. He recovered from the transplant for 5 weeks in the hospital and then an additional 5 weeks at The American Cancer Society's Hope Lodge in NYC, with my sister Tara who was his 24/7 caregiver. Chuck is strong and courageous and has continued to work and care for his family as much as humanly possible. However, as you can imagine, during the lengthy hospital stays both he and Tara were unable to work.
Chuck is back at MSK this week for chemotherapy prep and will receive AML CAR-T Cell therapy the following week. His transplant team would like him to have a 2nd Bone Marrow Transplant shortly after his recovery from the CAR-T Cell therapy. This means Chuck will once again be spending several months in the hospital; Tara will be commuting to the city to care for him and then eventually Chuck and Tara will again stay at The Hope Lodge until Chuck is cleared to go home; which will once again limit their ability to work.
Many friends and family have helped out in many different ways thus far and all of us are truly grateful. Because Chuck and Tara will need to endure another long road ahead, away from home and work, I created this Go Fund Me to help ease the financial burden this disease has placed on them and their 3 children. Thank you so very much for your support and your prayers.
