Josh and Emily Packard are lifelong friends of mine, and they are facing one of the most challenging seasons of their lives. Their second baby—a true miracle from God—has encountered unexpected complications. Doctors recently discovered that the placenta is restricting blood flow to their baby boy, causing him to grow much more slowly than he should. Emily is now being closely monitored multiple times each week, and there is a very real possibility that their baby may need to be delivered early for his safety. When he arrives, he is expected to spend time in the NICU, and the uncertainty is overwhelming for their family.

Not only will Josh and Emily be welcoming a medically fragile newborn, but they also have a 1-year-old at home who still needs constant care, comfort, and stability. Both parents receive only limited paid leave, and while their hearts are to be present with their newborn in the NICU and care for their toddler at home, the financial strain of unpaid time off creates an impossible choice. Through countless appointments, long hospital days, and so many unknowns, they are leaning on God’s strength, His provision, and the prayers of those around them, trusting Him to carry them through this difficult season.
