Support for Josephine's Family After Fire

My name is Jackie Shrekgast and I am setting up this gofundme for my dear friend Josephine Gioia and her husband Sal along with their daughter and grandson who are living with them. The paragraphs below are coming right from Jo's Facebook. As you read, you will see how grateful she has been to everyone who has helped her so far. But June 27th wasn’t long ago and unfortunately the road ahead will be long. No donation is too small and would be gratefully appreciated.

This will probably be a long post, but I hope you take the time to read it.

A week ago, on Thursday, June 27th, we succumbed to a house fire. We had lost power the night before. At around noon Thursday, the power went back on. Unbeknownst to any of us, somehow one of the burners was on, and what was on top caught fire. No one was home at the time except for Eddie, our dog, and 4 cats. The whole top floor is ruined & the house uninhabitable.

This was a tragic situation, but much good came out of it.

My next door neighbor happened to be home, left his house & saw the smoke. He called 911 and proceeded to go into the house to save Eddie, who was trapped upstairs because of the baby gates. He is our Super Hero, for without him, there would be no house, no Eddie and no cats. To Jay, we owe everything.

To the Salisbury Mills Fire Company, who got to our house in 10 minutes. Their quick response saved our home from a complete loss. Jay didn’t realize we had cats, and the firefighters found them all. Thank you to Washingtonville Fire Department, who assisted at the scene. If I missed any volunteer fire houses, I apologize and thank you.

Jeannette Weigelt, Maria Sasso Bua, you are the best neighbors anyone could ask for. They posted on Facebook, and received donations for us. Mostly for my grandson, Louis, whose bedroom was destroyed. They helped with Eddie, and opened their homes to us. I thank you and the rest of the Cornwall Community from the bottom of my heart.

From a horrific event, good has come out of it. It takes a village in many ways and mine is awesome.
