Hi everyone, Just two months ago, we never could have imagined writing this note. But that’s when my brother-in-law, Jim Sparks, found out he has not one, but two very aggressive cancers (colorectal and lung). We’re trying to raise funds to help him and the Sparks family navigate what is going to be a really hard season.

Jim’s only 51 years old and a former athlete (tennis player at Hampden-Sydney College), so it was a shock in just about every way you can imagine. He is a devoted husband to my sister, Gincie, and a great father to my nieces, Parker, Bagby, and Eliza.

Jim can’t turn down a Roger Federer replay, and he loves spending Sundays in front of a San Francisco 49ers game. He’s also the only person I know who can shred on electric guitar, playing hours of heavy metal, and then turn around and relax with his collection of Lionel Ritchie albums.

Today, he is facing the most difficult challenge of his life. Doctors have given him an estimated six months or less to live. As if that news wasn't heartbreaking enough, he was in between IT jobs when he received his diagnosis. Instead of beginning an exciting new chapter in his career, he started cancer treatments.

Now, Jim is fighting for every day he can get with his family. His greatest concern is for his wife and daughters. Instead of planning family celebrations and future milestones together, they are now making memories they never expected to have to make so soon.

The financial burden is already becoming overwhelming. Medical expenses, everyday household bills, insurance costs, and the loss of income have created an enormous strain during a time when the family should be able to focus on what truly matters: spending every possible moment together.
