Jim DeBold is the kind of person who’s always there for others— kind, hardworking and dependable, and the first to lend a hand to a friend in need. Now, Jim and his family are facing an unexpected crisis. While vacationing in Florida to visit Renee’s parents, Jim suffered a sudden subarachnoid hemorrhage (brain bleed) and was rushed to the ICU. He’s undergone multiple MRIs, CT scans, angiograms, and other treatments, and will need ongoing care, including physical and occupational therapy, once he’s able to return home to Columbus.

This medical emergency has turned life upside down for Renee and their daughters. Renee has been flying back and forth between Florida and Columbus, trying to be by Jim’s side while also caring for their children and working when she can—since she carries the family’s medical insurance. The girls have had to return home to keep up with school and sports, and Renee is juggling all the responsibility of two people. Jim will be unable to work for an unknown period, and the family is facing mounting expenses for medical care, travel, household bills, and food.

Jim and Renee’s friends and family have always known them as generous and supportive, and now they need that same support in return. They are not ones to ask for anything and only want to do for others. They kept telling everyone they did not want anyone doing anything for them. We insisted that we are doing this for them as we know they would be the first to do this for their friends in a crisis situation.
