Support for Hurricane Beryl's Caribbean Victims

***Working directly with the Rotary Club in the southern Caribbean***

On Monday July 1st, Category 4 Hurricane Beryl chose to set her sights on the southern Caribbean, an area that is not typically hit by hurricanes. Carriacou (part of Grenada), Union Island, Mayreau and Canouan(part of St. Vincent) in the Grenadines were most severely impacted with 90% of homes being flattened. All of these homes belonged to people that cannot afford to rebuild on their own. The islands still have no access to electricity, telecommunications or clean water and will most likely have to be evacuated to neighboring islands.

Carriacou population - 9600

Union Island population - 3000

Canouan population - 2700

Mayreau - 300

My husband and I were born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago where the idea of Caricom and Caribbean unity has always stuck with us. We have three young children living in New York City and tragedies like this make us feel unbearable sadness for Caribbean families with young children that are displaced. Having visited the Grenadines many times, we can tell you first hand that the people in these islands are some of the kindest that you will ever meet.

To those in the Caribbean diaspora that feel helpless like us and don't know how to help, please consider contributing in any way you can to those back home.

To those not originally from the Caribbean, perhaps you have a treasured memory visiting one of these islands or have been touched in some way through food, music or friends.

We know there is so much suffering happening in the world right now and that this can be seen as just another terrible tragedy in today's landscape but please know that every cent truly makes a difference in impacting lives.
