For the past several weeks, Halen had been complaining of a swollen tonsil. After finally securing an appointment with an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialist, the doctor examined the mass in Halen’s throat and immediately recommended that he be taken to the pediatric ENT team at UC Davis Medical Center, where specialists would evaluate and treat his condition. Following surgery to remove the rapidly growing tumor and additional testing, Halen was diagnosed with lymphoma. He is scheduled to begin treatment this week, and his treatment plan is expected to continue for approximately 12 to 16 weeks.

Although Neal and Tawna have good insurance, UC Davis is outside of their insurance network, which means a substantial portion of Halen’s medical expenses will not be covered. Neal and Tawna have always been the kind of people who give their time, money, and energy to anyone in need. Now, I am asking our family, friends, and community to give back a little if you are able. When caring for a sick child, the last thing any parent should have to worry about is the medical bills.
